What a real News Radio Station consists of?

The head of a radio station is the Editor. This is an experienced person within journalism and will decide which stories are going to be edited, whether it's newsworthy or not and at what order the stories will be told. He/She will also help lead and organise the other journalist and give pointers/advice to help the others out.

The Sub Editors are the people who investigate and write about all the news stories. There'll be some working within the office who phone up sources to get more information or look up some of the stories on the internet, looking at some of the things other media station have said about it. Reporters will be out there, taking interviews (both spontaneous and pre-organised interviews), press conferences, other events and occasions, where they get first hand information. Some times they will phone back to the office with a story or email a voice recording of the story so that it can be written by the sub editors or just hand them the information so that they can write the story down themselves. It is important that news stations get their stories out there as soon as possible so that they can gain credibilty as a reliable source for news.

Rewrite editors will be on hand to reword and rewite the stories by the Sub editors so that it sustain and hold the listener interest.

Day 1

Today, in our group, we discussed about what our radio station is going to be like. We banded some names around to decide what the name of our radio stations going to be before we all decided that it was going to be "Pulse FM". We wanted our show to be called "Vibe Time" which was aired from 6:00 - 9:00. We looked at images on the website to stimulate ideas for our logo. We typed words into google, such as pulse which lead to words like "waves" and then "wave forms"  of which we felt visually annotated the name of our radio station and we then started to create our logo.

Radio Comparison

I would say that our radio station "Pulse FM" is most similar to BBC Radio One because it engages teenagers and young adults who are in their 20s. It would consist of a mix of modern and contemporary music and it would include speech. It would offer a range of new music, support emerging UK artist and provide live music. News, documentaries and advice campaigns  should cover areas of relevance to young adults.
